The father of Nikas (Safronov Stepan Grigorievich) is a Russian, from a family of hereditary Orthodox priests leading from the annals of Simbirsk since 1668. Mama (Anna Fedorovna Safronova) was born in Lithuanian Panevises, by nationality - a half-pot-half-meal. Based on this, the Lithuanian pseudonym of the artist appeared - Nikas.By the way, the man greatly revered his mother, so he built a temple in her honor.

Studying in secondary school, young Nicholas became interested in drawing, copying book illustrations and reproductions, developing his own romantic style, thus embodying his dreams of traveling and adventures. At that time, he did not think about making fine art as a matter of his life.
After the eighth grade, Nikas Safronov went to Odessa. There he entered the nautical school, but he studied only a year. After he went to Rostov-on-Don, and here until 1975 he studied at the art school. At the same time, the young man worked as a dummy artist in the Rostov TYuZ, as well as worked as a watchman, a loader and a janitor.

He didn’t finish the school this way - he was called to serve in the missile forces in the Estonian city of Valga.
After demobilization, Nikas traveled to Lithuania, the mother’s homeland, to the city of Panevezys. And here for some time he worked at the Theater of Donatas Banionis as a theater designer and at the same time worked as a fabric artist at a flax factory.
In the historical homeland of Safronov, the truth did not stay long. In 1978 he moved to Vilnius. Five years to 1982, Nikas studied at the State Art Institute of the Lithuanian SSR (Now the university is called the Academy of Arts) at the Faculty of Design.
Three years later, the artist went to storm Moscow. Here he graduated from the Surikov Institute (Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov) and remained forever in the capital. He also has a diploma from the Moscow State University of Technology and Management, where he enrolled in the faculty of psychology.

Since 1973, he has been actively writing, exhibiting and selling his works, and from his first solo exhibition in 1978 in Panevezys he became known as a bright surrealist, portraitist and experimenter.

Scandals involving Nikas Safronov

In 2002, a scandal erupted around the work of Nikas Safronov. It turned out that the portraits are painted with pictures of paint. This was discovered by buyers. And the former Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia A. Dunayev paid the first attention to this significant detail. He gave two thousand dollars for the portrait of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.
According to the newspaper "Izvestia", there are more similar portraits of the president in Russia than the works of Safronov himself. Well, Nikas, in turn, accused of unauthorized production of portraits of producer Alexander Gaysin. The latter said that the release of fake paintings occurs only with the permission of the artist. Gaisin said that the portrait of the governor of the Ulyanovsk region V. Shamanov is nothing like a drawing in colors. The portrait, by the way, was presented to the head of the region personally by Safronov.

In an interview in 2006, he stated that his three paintings are now in the Hermitage. However, it later turned out that there was not a single canvas by Safronov in one of the main museums of St. Petersburg. The Director of the Hermitage responded to the official request in this way And in response, Nikas Safronov said that he meant "biscuits", which were made of clay, and then poured into a special form, as well as a painted plate.

Personal life of Nikas Safronov

Nikas Safronov was married twice. His first marriage lasted 20 days. His wife's name was Dragana, they got married in 1984. With his second wife Francesca the artist met in 1990. In 1992, their son Stefano was born, but the marriage also fell apart even 12 years after they met in 2002.The son stayed with his mother, they live in London.
Now Nikas Safronov lives a civil marriage with a girl Masha.

The artist has illegitimate children: the son of Luke Zatravkin and Landin. The first was born in 1990, now he has become a pianist. Landin was born in 1999 and currently lives in Australia.
