Moskvich 426, structural features
Cars with station wagon were available inproduction program of the plant MZMA since 1957. Each subsequent generation of vehicles with rear-wheel drive, along with the sedan body, had several body station variants.
Creating and improving the car
When creating a third-generation salooncars МЗМА designers have developed and the versatile person on its basis. The sedan had the designation "Moskvich 408". This was known to every motorist. A station wagon - "Moskvich 426". The constructor of the car was Yefim Mastbaum. The car began to descend from the assembly line only two years after the release of the sedan - since the fall of 1967. The release lasted until early 1976.
Initially, the machine was made with roundheadlights, like a sedan. In 1969, the base sedan underwent a modernization, during which it received new imported rectangular headlights and a radiator lining, as well as new rear lights. A year later, elements of passive safety were refined. The changes in the rear lamps did not affect the station wagon versions. Improvements in design were reflected in the prefix IE in the designation of models - the station wagon had an index of 426 IE.
Design and technical features
The body of the bearing structure had five doors. Part of the body parts of the universal "Moskvich 426" were original. But the side panels of the sedan and wagon bodies were identical. That's why the neck of the gas tank is put on the back panel and does not have a cover. In general, the body was less rigid, which eventually led to the appearance of cracks around the pillars of the body.
The rear seat had a metal back and in the folded form gave a flat surface along with the trunk floor. Under the floor panel of the trunk was a spare tire.
Until 1972, cars were equipped with a two-leafthe rear door, consisting of two doors - the top (with the rear window) and the bottom. Later, this decision was abandoned - the door became one-piece, opened only upwards.
Power unit and transmission units in fullthe composition was removed from the sedan. The 1358-bhp engine developed up to 50 forces and docked with a four-speed gearbox with synchronizers on three higher gears. The engine had good traction characteristics and elasticity at that time. The shift lever on the "Moskvich 426" was on the steering column.
Independent front suspension was completelyis identical to "Muscovite 408". The rear suspension has changed unchanged from the station wagon of the old model - "Moskvich 423". Therefore, the rear springs of models 408 and 426 are not interchangeable. The rear gearbox had an increased gear ratio. The brakes also did not differ from the sedan. But the station wagon had different - the "M 100" model, which was designed for a higher load.

Operation of machines
Universal "Moskvich 426" in a fairly largethe volume was sold to the population, unlike the same station wagon GAZ 22. In addition to selling to private traders, the machine was widely used by trade organizations, film studios, and liaison offices. Attempts MZMA to supply their cars in a taxi were unsuccessful. Machines could not stand competition with the more solid and spacious "Volga".
"Moskvich 426" existed in a number of modifications -for example, for a medical service or a taxi. During operation, the native motor after wear was often replaced by a 75-horsepower engine, more powerful. In fact, it turned the car into "Moskvich 427".
