HyperaldosteronismThis is a condition in which the adrenal cortex secretes more aldosterone than is normally required to maintain sodium-potassium equilibrium.

Types of Hyperaldosteronism

Primaryclinical syndrome arising from lesions of the adrenal glands and manifested by arterial hypertension, hypokalemia and low serum renin content.

Secondary (symptomatic)due to causes localized outside the adrenal glands. Renin content is significantly increased.

The main symptoms of hyper aldosteronism

The main manifestations of the disease - hypertensive syndrome, hypokalemia. Patients complain of headache, weakness, fatigue, muscle weakness, muscle spasms, muscle cramps, polyuria. With a long course of the disease, nephrosclerosis and chronic renal failure may develop.

Treatment of hyper aldosteronism

The treatment of primary hyperaldosteronism consists in the surgical removal of a hormonally active adrenal tumor. In case of secondary hyperaldosteronism, symptomatic therapy is aimed at increasing urine excretion of sodium in the urine (veroshpiron, etc.), as well as treating the underlying disease that caused hyperaldosteronism.

Prevention of hyper aldosteronism

Prevention of hyper aldosteronism is a regular follow-up observation of patients with arterial hypertension, liver and kidney diseases, following the recommendations of the doctor regarding the nature of the diet and diuretic and laxatives.
