Few details about washing
Aircraft washing is always a complex and time-consuming process. In order to put in order one liner, depending on its size, it takes 4 to 8 hours, and a team of 8-10 people works on it!
For aircraft washing, anticorrosive detergents certified for civil aviation are used.
Complicated elements, such as the chassis, engine and wing mechanization, are serviced in terms of washing by specialists with special tolerances (engineering staff). Since these objects require increased attention.

Particular attention is paid to the lower surface of the fuselage and wing, because they have the most severe pollution when moving on the airfield and runway.

The main types of airborne surface contamination are dust deposits on all surfaces of the aircraft.Mineral organic substances (bitumen mastic, dirt from runways) are mainly on the bottom surface of the fuselage and on the flaps. "Dry" car wash
In order to save water resources, some airlines clean airplanes "dry." For example, Emirates thus saves up to 11,300 liters of water on each A380, and 9,500 liters of water on a Boeing 777.
The procedure involves applying to the fuselage of airliners special cleaning fluid, which is then wiped with clean microfiber cloths. Since the cleanser also forms a protective film on the fuselage, the need for cleaning the aircraft is reduced to those once a year.
Another plus of “dry” carwash is the ability to simultaneously carry out aircraft maintenance, which is unrealistic when washing in the traditional way due to the sensitivity of tools to water.
Still, why wash?
And here, too, everything is simple. Aesthetics is an important thing, but in this case it is a secondary factor. The main thing - aerodynamics! Contamination on the surface of the aircraft increases fuel consumption and reduces the quality of maintenance. For example, for the flight Moscow (SVO) - New York (JFK), the savings amount to up to 200 liters of fuel.
And, according to psychologists, the appearance of the liner inspires the passenger a sense of security and comfort.
